United States Beer Reviews
Although beer existed in the United States from its birth (and before), it wasn’t until Prohibition that the state of beer in America was truly united. Today, the United States is arguably the world’s most important beer market, where brewers enjoy the most freedom to practice and advance their craft. The market is a true melting pot of brewing styles and traditions, and the beer community is as vibrant as it is diverse. While things really got started during and as a result of the Prohibition Era (1919-1933), fermented drinks pre-date the country’s founding in 1776. Hailed as a land of opportunity, huge macrobrewing enterprises like AB InBev and MillerCoors co-exist alongside a growing number of small craft beer companies. A country built by immigrants, America has heavy European brewing influences. The number of influential breweries are too great to number, and the list continues to evolve as independent brewers push innovation in the craft and give the world more and more interesting lagers and ales to explore.

If I’m completely honest, I would say that Belgian-style ales don’t really get me that excited. Whether they be genuine Trappist ales from Chimay or Rochefort, or simply “Belgian-style” homages like the North Coast one I’m reviewing...

We’re having a late dinner tonight, it got pushed back so the fresh, goodness-stuffed basil ravioli in the fridge will just have to wait another hour. With a bit of time to kill, a brew felt right. And tonight, I decided I would have dessert before dinner. So...

The bookstore I started at on Oct. 4th is finally open for business, meaning my schedule has become a little more consistent. For a while I was pulling 9-13 hour days in preparation for our grand opening. That said, I’m still on a Fresh hop, Wet hop, Hop Harvest (or...

Michael: For me, winter is stout season. Last year, I spent three glorious months of cold searching out the finest stouts I could. As the snow flies this year and the liquor store shelves begin to fill with bottles of black liquid goodness, it was time for me to clear...

It has been a long time since I’ve written about beer. Life has been chaotic in my world, but not chaotic enough to give up drinking beer, just a bit tough to consistently write about it. Here I am reviewing a beer that is local to Chicagoland, brewed by the Wild...

The Mesabi Iron Range in northern Minnesota’s Arrowhead Region is rich with history of mining, drinking, Kevin McHale and Bob Dylan. At one time all were doing well. Today McHale lives in the Twin Cities and out of the public eye, Bob Dylan left long ago and...
