United States Beer Reviews
Although beer existed in the United States from its birth (and before), it wasn’t until Prohibition that the state of beer in America was truly united. Today, the United States is arguably the world’s most important beer market, where brewers enjoy the most freedom to practice and advance their craft. The market is a true melting pot of brewing styles and traditions, and the beer community is as vibrant as it is diverse. While things really got started during and as a result of the Prohibition Era (1919-1933), fermented drinks pre-date the country’s founding in 1776. Hailed as a land of opportunity, huge macrobrewing enterprises like AB InBev and MillerCoors co-exist alongside a growing number of small craft beer companies. A country built by immigrants, America has heavy European brewing influences. The number of influential breweries are too great to number, and the list continues to evolve as independent brewers push innovation in the craft and give the world more and more interesting lagers and ales to explore.

I’ve got to admit first and foremost: I love pilsners, and pilsner-style lagers. Perhaps, it’s in my Hungarian blood, or maybe I developed a taste for it while living in Cincinnati, Ohio (for Germans what Holland, Michigan is for the Dutch). Of course, the Germans...

It’s lunch time on a Saturday and it’s 90 degrees. I passed by my Samichlaus and my Aphrodite and went straight to this refresher from New Belgium. I poured it straight down the center of my lager glass. It foamed and fussed for several minutes before it...

There is one brewery in Door County. Enough wineries per capita to compete with Napa, but one place to get freshly brewed beer. Shipwrecked, located on the main drag in Egg Harbor, is that one. Despite my extended stay, until this evening I had yet to try one of their...

The name KGB conjures up dark, clandestine operations of power. It also conjures up cold. Russia, the home of KGB, was cold. That’s an understatement. So my photo is perfect for introducing this dark Russian imperial stout. Perhaps the brew master was...

Sierra Nevada is practically craft beer royalty. Founded in 1979, they were years ahead of their time and blazed a trail that craft brewers have followed ever since. Not only were they pioneers in brewing high quality American Ales, but they essentially introduced the...

In 2011 Two Brothers released a one-off variation of their seasonal double IPA called Hop Juice. With a growing popularity in the Cascadian Dark Ale style they affectionately called it Hop Juice Black. What follows are my findings: The appearance was just as expected....
