United States Beer Reviews
Although beer existed in the United States from its birth (and before), it wasn’t until Prohibition that the state of beer in America was truly united. Today, the United States is arguably the world’s most important beer market, where brewers enjoy the most freedom to practice and advance their craft. The market is a true melting pot of brewing styles and traditions, and the beer community is as vibrant as it is diverse. While things really got started during and as a result of the Prohibition Era (1919-1933), fermented drinks pre-date the country’s founding in 1776. Hailed as a land of opportunity, huge macrobrewing enterprises like AB InBev and MillerCoors co-exist alongside a growing number of small craft beer companies. A country built by immigrants, America has heavy European brewing influences. The number of influential breweries are too great to number, and the list continues to evolve as independent brewers push innovation in the craft and give the world more and more interesting lagers and ales to explore.

John: I was looking for a nice beer to share with some buddies and knew that Grand Teton would give the quality I was looking for. I hadn’t tried their APA so a six pack was the way to go. It poured a cloudy amber with lots of effervescence. The lacy, big head...

I first tried Stone beer in a Chicago area pub and low and behold 6 months later it showed up on shelves in Minnesota. I had tried 5 Stone beers one night but this IPA was not on the menu. This is a great beer. Stone has a strong reputation where it is available and...

I’ve saved this treat for just such a special occasion. The last evening of a great weekend ‘up north,’ I was happy to share with family. It poured into a tulip glass wonderfully, a solid beige head formed at about an inch, looking like a liquid bed...

Tom: A flagship beer that was on the cutting edge of the canned craft beer trend in 2002. Dale’s Pale boast being the first craft beer to be canned paving the way an waiting for other breweries to catch up. Some might argue that this beer has historic value,...
by Tom Smillie | Ale Asylum, Goblet, Quadrupel, Snifter, Tulip, United States, Wisconsin |
What drew me to this beer was the label. It reminded me of that beast Balrog in Lord of the Rings giving me the impression that this beer might be pretty menacing. Come to find out the only thing that was beastly about this beer was the abv clocking in at 9.5%. The...
by Michael Larson | Baltic Porter, Flying Dog Brewery, Maryland, Mug, Pint Glass, Porter, Spirit-Aged Beers, United States |
Until I typed the title of this beer, I positively knew I was drinking a stout. I picked this up purely on the recommendation of my local beer guy, who is constantly informing me of beers I want, even thought I didn’t even know they existed. This one from Flying Dog...
