United States Beer Reviews
Although beer existed in the United States from its birth (and before), it wasn’t until Prohibition that the state of beer in America was truly united. Today, the United States is arguably the world’s most important beer market, where brewers enjoy the most freedom to practice and advance their craft. The market is a true melting pot of brewing styles and traditions, and the beer community is as vibrant as it is diverse. While things really got started during and as a result of the Prohibition Era (1919-1933), fermented drinks pre-date the country’s founding in 1776. Hailed as a land of opportunity, huge macrobrewing enterprises like AB InBev and MillerCoors co-exist alongside a growing number of small craft beer companies. A country built by immigrants, America has heavy European brewing influences. The number of influential breweries are too great to number, and the list continues to evolve as independent brewers push innovation in the craft and give the world more and more interesting lagers and ales to explore.

I was first pleased to meet Pilgrim’s Dole at a cheese market located in the heart of a Chicago suburb. It made an impression on me and was pleased to find a bottle through the random use of a Groupon…I digress. In color, its practically a chameleon. Under the...

For the longest time I have avoided Hefeweizen. Years ago I ordered Hacker-Pschorr every now and then, but when I got into craft beer for real, the heavy and unfiltered banana & clove was just too much for me. It was too thick, sweet and musty of a style for me. I...

Back to back New Glarus brews, now that is a real treat. Tonight’s offering, a rare and interesting drink, one that stretches to even be called a beer. And yet, it is, and so I embark on another flavor filled journey. Reading the label, I wasn’t convinced...

Taylor: When I was handed 2 bottles of Furthermore Oscura, I did not fully understand what I possessed. I had never heard of the brewer (Furthermore operates out of Wisconsin as a wholesaler, brews its lineup with Sand Creek’s equipment, and distributes in...
by John | American Strong Ale, Bell's Brewery, Michigan, Mug, Pint Glass, Snifter, United States |
If I was to name this beer I’d call it “Deceptive”. I was surprised by this beer. Tricked! Deceived! I’ve never had a “hoppy porter” or a porterish IPA. I picked up two bottles of Batch 10,000 thinking one for “now” and...
by Team | American Pale Ale (APA), Grand Teton Brewing Company, Idaho, Mug, Pint Glass, United States |
John: I was looking for a nice beer to share with some buddies and knew that Grand Teton would give the quality I was looking for. I hadn’t tried their APA so a six pack was the way to go. It poured a cloudy amber with lots of effervescence. The lacy, big head...
