United States Beer Reviews
Although beer existed in the United States from its birth (and before), it wasn’t until Prohibition that the state of beer in America was truly united. Today, the United States is arguably the world’s most important beer market, where brewers enjoy the most freedom to practice and advance their craft. The market is a true melting pot of brewing styles and traditions, and the beer community is as vibrant as it is diverse. While things really got started during and as a result of the Prohibition Era (1919-1933), fermented drinks pre-date the country’s founding in 1776. Hailed as a land of opportunity, huge macrobrewing enterprises like AB InBev and MillerCoors co-exist alongside a growing number of small craft beer companies. A country built by immigrants, America has heavy European brewing influences. The number of influential breweries are too great to number, and the list continues to evolve as independent brewers push innovation in the craft and give the world more and more interesting lagers and ales to explore.

Michael: Garret Oliver has always been a bit of a beer god to me. Not because I respect him or know him or have even had a single one of his brews. I just feel like he is everywhere, gracing the cover of All About Beer or found in this week’s ‘Food’ section pairing...

So many things of note here, before I even crack the bottle. First, what is bigger than a Sasquatch? Nothing, I would argue, so already this stout is setting itself up to be a big brew. Second, the bottle is emblazoned with the phrase “brewed behind the Cheddar...
by Taylor Birkey | American Amber / Red Ale, California, Imperial Beers, Mug, Pilsner Glass, Pint Glass, Port Brewing Company, United States |
Port Brewing Company is located in San Marcos, California, and is also known by its other name, The Lost Abbey. You may have had beers from both names and thought they were different … but they’re the same. Ever since I tasted Grand Teton Brewing...

Name in honor of Gordon Knight, a Vietnam Vet who lost his life fighting a fire outside of the brewery’s town, this beer is a not to his service and love for craft beer. Not sure where to go with this review after that. Gordon is a hero…straight up! The...
by Michael Larson | English Bitter (ESB) / Pale Ale, Minnesota, Mug, Pint Glass, Summit Brewing Company, United States |
I’m in the last hour of playing Mr. Mom for the weekend. My daughter is asleep and I have a few minutes before a crazy Sunday afternoon begins. The final orphan from my Summit Sampler was their flagship, this EPA, and I felt it time to do right by the brew and pour...
by Tom Smillie | Colorado, Oskar Blues Brewery, Pint Glass, Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy, Snifter, Tulip, United States |
I’m not sure why this was the last beer I chose to review from Oskar Blues line up? Maybe it was the name or maybe I was resisting my heritage, in the end the time has come to partake of this strong Scottish ale. Brewed with beech wood smoked malt (think...
