United States Beer Reviews
Although beer existed in the United States from its birth (and before), it wasn’t until Prohibition that the state of beer in America was truly united. Today, the United States is arguably the world’s most important beer market, where brewers enjoy the most freedom to practice and advance their craft. The market is a true melting pot of brewing styles and traditions, and the beer community is as vibrant as it is diverse. While things really got started during and as a result of the Prohibition Era (1919-1933), fermented drinks pre-date the country’s founding in 1776. Hailed as a land of opportunity, huge macrobrewing enterprises like AB InBev and MillerCoors co-exist alongside a growing number of small craft beer companies. A country built by immigrants, America has heavy European brewing influences. The number of influential breweries are too great to number, and the list continues to evolve as independent brewers push innovation in the craft and give the world more and more interesting lagers and ales to explore.

I can distinctly remember my first experience with Mad Hatter IPA (or any IPA, for that matter). A few summers back, I was at Molly Malone’s Irish Pub in Forest Park, IL with my buddy Adam, and still had a relatively tame beer palate. Ever eager to broaden my brew...

Holy Hops! You better like bitter beer if you are going to sip this one. I knew this beer would be hoppy as the label says, “A complex malt and hop theme park in your mouth” but I didn’t know it would that hoppy. Then again, I shouldn’t be surprised because the name...

I grabbed two 12 oz bottles of this at the Binny’s by work the other day for $1.19/each. We had lunch at Panera which was right next door to Binny’s so I knew I was going to be buying more than just a bread bowl. I had my eyes on Goose Island Christmas Ale, which I...

Two Brothers Brewery out of Warrenville, Illinois has created one big beer. This artisan brew falls in between two of there current beers in production. It is a step above their IPA (Heavy Handed) and a notch down from their Double IPA (Hop Juice). It is significantly...

Today I was pleasantly surprised when I sampled Red Hook Brewery’s Treblehook Barley Wine Ale. I have to admit I’m not a big fan of this particular style, but since it is a limited release the bottle was calling to me from the shelf. From what I can...

While the beer’s title may seem a bit schizophrenic, this beer knows exactly who it is. Its head stands strong, a veritable styrofoam weight, stacked four fingers high atop a coffee-brown base. It is opaque, so much so you feel like you’re going to be...
