United States Beer Reviews
Although beer existed in the United States from its birth (and before), it wasn’t until Prohibition that the state of beer in America was truly united. Today, the United States is arguably the world’s most important beer market, where brewers enjoy the most freedom to practice and advance their craft. The market is a true melting pot of brewing styles and traditions, and the beer community is as vibrant as it is diverse. While things really got started during and as a result of the Prohibition Era (1919-1933), fermented drinks pre-date the country’s founding in 1776. Hailed as a land of opportunity, huge macrobrewing enterprises like AB InBev and MillerCoors co-exist alongside a growing number of small craft beer companies. A country built by immigrants, America has heavy European brewing influences. The number of influential breweries are too great to number, and the list continues to evolve as independent brewers push innovation in the craft and give the world more and more interesting lagers and ales to explore.

One of my favorite aspects of sampling beer is finding a new brewery that I have never tried before. This happened in September when I tried Hoss by Great Divide out of Denver Co. Since then I have tried a couple more of their brews and have not been disappointed....

I love Wheat beers! Unfortunately, I’m not a big fan of Hefeweizens. There are three basic types of Wheat beers: American Wheats, Belgium Wit biers, and German Hefes. While the first two are very enjoyable and delicious, the latter is rather unpleasant. There are two...

As I was relaxing in my living room with jazzy tunes, a well lit Christmas tree and a freshIy fallen foot of snow, I decide to grab some holiday spirit. I chose Christmas Ale, crafted by Bell’s Brewery in Comstock, MI. This seasonal brew is exceptional! Its...
by Taylor Birkey | Pint Glass, Redhook Ale Brewery, Russian Imperial Stout, Snifter, United States, Washington |
Today, instead of a piping hot cup of coffee, I decided to get a little adventurous and try Redhook Brewery’s ominous Limited Release Double Black Stout: 650ml of pure black attack. Comes in a tall brown bottle with a mediocre-ly designed label on it. Average...

My most recent trip to Binny’s embodies my current beer-drinking dilemma. Too many beers and far, far too little time. As I wandered, seemingly aimless in my pursuit of what could be my next favorite brew, I was stopped by a couple of the beer experts at the...
by Taylor Birkey | American Pilsner, Pilsner Glass, Spoetzl Brewery, Texas, United States |
Halfway through the box of Spoetzl Brewery’s Family Reunion, I’m on to the Shiner Kosmos Reserve. Here is an American Pale Lager for my beer belt. Definitely a beer I’ll drink again, unlike the unimpressive Shiner Blonde. The Kosmos Reserve is a...
