In my neck of the suburbs there is a prairie path that stretches for miles connecting multiple towns and giving eager runners, walkers, and bikers a place to get the iron out. Illinois was once host to a vast prairie of tall grasses and wild plants. In celebration of this heritage, Two Brothers brewed a golden ale that suits my native land.
Their website says it was brewed with Belgium malts and it is fitting of a Pale Ale from that region. The aroma is almost like you’re standing in a field of barley or a prairie for that matter. Hearty and down to earth, it makes me think of what a threshing floor might smell like. Amazing bread and pale malt notes enliven your nose. The hops used are Saaz (also used in Pilsners) and Goldings. They give this beer a deeper floral, spicy, earthy aroma and flavor. There is definitely a fruity ale character which adds depth to the overall taste. Rolling in sweet on the tongue, it carries a light mouthfeel and a slight bitterness on the backside of the palate. The finish is crisp and clean leaving behind a lingering tang.
I thought Prairie Path was very well balanced, light beer that is very easy to drink. One you could multiples of; it can be a great crowd pleaser appealing to both genders at your next shindig. I would recommend picking up a six pack and have one…or two…or three!
