The bottle claims Stockyard Brewing Co. to be its home; however, Goose Island Brewing Co actually brews this beauty. Goose Island specifically brews this one for Trader Joe’s, so if you have a Joe’s in your neighborhood, you have to grab some of this stuff. Excuse me, lots of this stuff!

At first pour, the color was coffee black with a faint red hue and a one finger caramel head that squealed “what are you waiting for?!” It smelled so good, mostly of dark cocoa and smoky malts with a hint of fresh roasted coffee beans. The taste was a pleasuring variety of deep hearty malts, coffee, and dark chocolate. The brew finished with chocolatety tones that sat on my tongue for a few moments asking, “Would you like dessert with that? You damn right I would”! This beer had a perfect thick creamy texture that seems to fit the style of most quality oatmeal stouts. The flavors blended incredibly well together leading me to believe the brewer conquered the exact flavor that it set out to create.

Goose Island should highly consider getting the word out on this one. You know, beyond the Trader Joe’s crowd. Not perfect, but damn close! Awesome! This brew actually has swung my preferences of brews. Maybe I am more of a Stout drinker than I thought I was…
