“Wow!” “Are you kidding me?” Those were the first two reactions out of my mouth after I took a smell and sip of the collaborative brew by Dogfish Head and Sierra Nevada. I was able to obtain a bottle because I know a guy at the local beverage depot. This beer is pretty limited so ask around for it and you should be able to find one.

Rather than reading my interpretation about the story of this beer visit www.life-limb.com to get the information from the source. It’s pretty awesome! Nice artwork and very informative.

Forget aging this for years…I cracked open this bottle as soon as I could. It was a long day at work when all I wanted to do was sit down and enjoy this unique beer. It comes in a 24 oz. bottle which is enough for two glasses. Watch out for the 10% ABV that might sneak up on you. This beer is definitely one to share with friends.

This beer was so good I can hardly put it into words, but here goes.

Color: Deep mahogany, garnet, black.

Smell: Roasted grains, woody, alcoholic, dark chocolate, some nuttiness.

Taste: Very rich, chocolaty, sweet caramel notes, dry hoppy bitterness, you do taste a deeper flavor due to the syrup added. It makes for a fuller body and finish while leaving a slight stickiness on your lips. I’ve never tasted what birch syrup is like so the closes thing I can think of is Birch Beer (a root beer I had in PA that utilizes birch syrup I guess). Woody, earthy flavors due to syrups and the hops seem to match.

Mouthfeel: medium heavy to heavy, but very well carbonated. Relatively smooth with some high alcohol precense.

Overall: Get you some! This beer is amazing!

ABV: 10.2%

Grade: A+
