Actually, Amstel Light was founded in Amsterdam in the 1870’s and later bought out by Heineken International in the late 1960’s. Amstel beer varieties are commonly brewed in the western Netherlands at one of the several Heineken Breweries. Also, both Amstel and Amstel Light are known to have the same ingredients, calories etc. Of course, they target the United States for there “light” portion of the beers. Most Americans are suckers for light beer. I think those light beer lovers need to become exposed to The Perfectly Happy Man for a flavor overload, don’t ya think? Although, it remains true that one cannot develop an incredible palate for beer unless they have been exposed to as many as possible…this is a beer, I must taste it!

I had the opportunity to enjoy this brew while vacationing in Florida. It was a perfect adjunct to the hot afternoon sun, however, nothing more than an average light beer/thirst quencher! Definitely not a choice brew for flavor, but if you are a fan of simple light brews I’m sure this will suit you just fine.

This beer poured clear golden with average carbonation and a minimal foamy white head that dissipated almost immediately. It smelled faintly of malts and grass and tasted much of the same. The finish was rather plain and the carbonation danced on the back of my throat a bit. This brews character matches it’s many similar light beer competitors on the market today. If you are a light beer guzzler, I guess you gotta try one for yourself. Refreshing and extremely easy to consume 1,2,11, whatever.
