According to this brews label, Winterfest was brewed by Bavarian Monks to lift the spirits during the long fasts of lent. If I were to fast and consume large amounts of beer, I would soon crash and indulge in anything edible…I give those fasting fellows serious props!

This beer poured coffee black with a thick 1 finger head that hung on for quite some time. It smelled of rich coffee and bitter hops. The taste was zesty boosting a rich burnt caramel flavor with a fairly bitter and alcohol dominant aftertaste. This brew was semi-smooth until the bitters hit the back of the tongue. Also, being a bock, I was ready for the heavy alcohol hue that seems to follow every sip.

This brew was decent, however, the flavors just didn’t seem to cooperate. Perhaps I should give this brew another try just in case my palate was not up to par for this one today.
