There is one brewery in Door County. Enough wineries per capita to compete with Napa, but one place to get freshly brewed beer. Shipwrecked, located on the main drag in Egg Harbor, is that one. Despite my extended stay, until this evening I had yet to try one of their brews this year. To be honest, I think I was slightly gun-shy, still on my palate the previous Shipwrecked experience that left me wanting a whole lot more.
But onto the beer, and with it a clean slate, as unbiased an opinion as I can muster. The our was pretty typical porter. The head was airy and fizzy and the body a nice opaque brown, dark in the center and melting into amber hues on the edges. The aroma was pretty basic as well, nothing too shocking, just a sweet, brown sugar type maltiness. The taste was, unfortunately, nothing spectacular either. There were a couple of roasty notes and a dry, burnt finish, but besides that, nothing to get me to come back. Maybe before tasting Founders Porter or Sinebrychoff’s, I would have been more impressed, but the bar has been set, and this porter fell short with so many others.
I kinda like this beer. Maybe I got bad batches because no one else is mentioning the things that I like about it. Seems to be a “soured” porter to me.
Just opening the bottle I thought i was opening a bottle of vinegar. almost over powering at first. But it grows on you
I have got 4-5 6ixers since, and all the same. So the it must not have been just a fluke that I had.
But i really like it this way. I will keep drinking it as long as they keep it soured
