Pours a semi-transparent gold color, slightly hazy with tons of bubbles on the inside of my glass. Very crisp, dry, highly carbonated light, fruity beer. Elegant and drinkable, (as the label says), I’m going to let this one warm up a bit.

Still pretty cold but I’m thirsty for beer during my intermission mopping the basement floor, thats right, mopping- does anyone do that anymore? We’ll I’m doing it, tunes on, and enjoying every minute.

I’ve long been a big fan of New Glarus, attributing my introduction to craft beer to one of their most well known beers, Spotted Cow. This brewery produces a wide range of quality beers of different styles. I can’t say I’ve ever had one that I didn’t enjoy. Of course some more than others, but they make great beer. Stone Soup is considered an Abbey Ale, but one that falls on the lower scale of ABV at 5.3%. The label says hints of clove and ginger, I get more of a lemon note than anything. I’m almost finished mopping and the beer is almost gone. Yet another beer that I have enjoyed as the temperature in the glass has risen. The mouthfeel has turned quite soothing, a bit creamy but still possessing a gentle, dry bite at the end. I’m no expert on Abbey Ales, this one seeming to be again, a bit light from what I imagine an Abbey Ale would be, but the flavor is there, and combined nicely with a smooth mouthfeel and good balance of hops and malt. Not to mention a good amount of yeast flavor, but not anything overpowering. New Glarus, thank you again. Recommended. (and only available in Wisconsin)
