Sawtooth! Two things come to mind. A freak shark with teeth that mangle prey or the giant two-person saw used to fell trees. Quite frankly, I’m out of words for the day as I already used my allotted share and I have other matters on the mind. Fortunately, drinking this beer and jotting down some notes helps me unwind.
- Rather simply, here was what I took away from Left Hand’s Americanized ESB:
- Nice hazy copper color.
- Reddish/tan hue head with consistent carbonation.
- Balanced aroma and taste.
- Caramel, toffee, nutty, and toasty smells/flavors.
- Hops used (Magnum, Willamette, US Goldings, and Cascade) gave it an earthy, spicy, piney, floral quality.
- Did not notice the Cascade thankfully (overused in my opinion).
- Smooth malt taste with mild bitterness.
- ABV 4.48% makes this a great session beer.
- Finish has a caramel apple sweetness and leaves behind piney hop notes.
- Body is creamy and moderate.
- Similar to a Red Ale.
- The hops are not as loud and citrusy.
- I had this beer throughout the day with both a PB&J and Turkey sandwich.
- Went well with both.
Pick up a sixer or bomber and enjoy a well-balanced beer that will grow on you.

Haha…I just noticed that the bottle has a giant two-person saw on the label. Did not even notice that…I’m an idiot.
