The Gray’s brewery has been in existence since the late 1800’s and is known to be one of the oldest family owned breweries in the U.S today. Gray’s has an incredible Brew pub named “Gray’s Tied House” and happens to be a bonfire grill and brewery near Madison, WI. They of offer good food and a variety of Grey’s beers. Side note: a “tied house” was a term used in England to describe a house that brewed and served beer right inside that same house. We should all start bringing that trend back…

At first pour, this straw colored clear brew carried a brief skimming head that disappeared almost immediately. It smelled of wheat, hops, and fruit with hints of something roasted. The taste was surprisingly wheaty accompanied with hops that seemed a bit to strong for a traditional wheat brew. This beer felt thin in texture and finished a bit zesty with a strong hoppy tang that sat on the back of my tongue.

I think the brewer did a nice job with choice ingredients but it seemed as if these same flavors could have been adjusted ever so slightly in order to achieve the proper balance of a great wheat beer.

Gray’s brewing co has a variety of brews to sample and I am intrigued to see what this small brewery has to offer us beer enthusiasts. I did hear from several samplers that Gray’s offers some really nice selections. If interested, stay tuned for more…
