Finally! I get another extended weekend to relax. Fortunately, I already had plans for New Year’s Eve so the yearly last minute dilemma of where to go and what to do is gone. Although it was a shortened week at work, it was probably more stressful that the last 3 week combined. I started a tradition after I graduated college that every payday Friday after work I have a beer (in case I did not get a chance to have one during the week). It’s my salute to a good two weeks of work.

Today I stopped by ye ol’ beverage depot (Binny’s) and picked up some interesting items. Arriving home I was in a light ale mood so I reached for the local favorite. In the South suburbs of Chicago there is an old train station that has been rebuilt into a brewpub. Flossmoor Station Brewing Co started bottling and locally selling there beer a couple years ago and it is delicious. I am currently 2 ounces away from finishing their Station Master American Wheat.

American Wheat beers are my favorite style of Wheats. They do not have the clove and banana aroma/flavors of German Hefes and shy away from the coriander and orange peel common in Belgium Wits. This beer made my day, nay, my week. I poured a lovely hazy gold brew with a glorious fluffy white 3-4 finger head. The bottle spec say it is brewed with “45% wheat malt, a dab of honey malt for complexity and color, and Amarillo hops.” There are slight hints of honey and I made sure I roused up the yeast left in the bottle which provided a great bready character to it. The hops were not as aggressive as Gumball Head (which used the same hop), but were noticeable. It was thirst quenching, brisk, and with an ABV of 4.6% you could drink it all night.
